ATV ACCIDENT WARRANTS QRS AND AEROMEDICAL

January 7th - Harwood Fire Company Quick Response Service was dispatched to assist APTS Medic 11 at the Paragon Adventure Park for a reported ATV Accident.  QRS and Paramedics arrived on scene to be placed into staging by Park personnel advising that the patient was being extricated from the wooded area by the Park's EMS staff.  Upon arrival of the patient at the staging area it was determined that patient should be air-lifted to a trauma center for injuries sustained during the accident.  Aeromedical was requested to fly to the Harwood Ball Field and an Engine Company from Harwood Fire Company was dispatched to establish the landing zone.  Engine Company 192 secured the LZ and patient was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital Center for treatment.

 

PAIR OF LZ'S BRING THE YEAR TO A CLOSE

December 30th - Engine Company 192 was once again summoned to the Harwood Ball Field to establish a landing zone for University Medevac inbound for a patient involved in a motor vehicle accident.  Engine crew arrived on scene and again prepared the 150' safe zone for the helo.  Helicopter landed safely in the grassy area and patient was loaded for transport.  Patient was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital Center for treatment.

 

December 28th - Just before 9 pm. Harwood Fire Company was dispatched to the Harwood Ball Field to establish a landing zone for incoming Medevac Helicopter.  Aeromedical inbound to retrieve a patient involved in a traumatic industrial accident.  Engine Company 192 responded with a full crew and under the direction of Assistant Chief 193 (J. Ripa) established a 150' x 150' landing area and set up portable lighting.  Contact was made with the pilot and a description of the landing area was given.  Helo landed without incident and patient was prepped and loaded for flight to Lehigh Valley Hospital Center in suburban Allentown.  Crews cleared the scene at 21:35 hours.

 

TANKER AND SQUAD TAKE IN HAZ-MAT CALL IN THE TOWNSHIP

December 17th - Dispatched just before 09:00 hours for Tanker 191 to respond to assist Hazle Twp Fire Department at the Wal-Mart Supercenter for a possible Hazardous Materials release.  Additional information received was that employees working near a trash compactor witnessed a grayish colored cloud emanating from the compactor and irritating the employees' eyes.  West Hazleton Fire Department was also dispatched for their Haz-Mat Team.  Tanker 191 and Squad 196 arrived on location and were placed in staging while crews from West Hazleton prepared to make entry into the structure and set up a decon station.  Nothing was found by Haz-Mat crews and all units were released at 11:09 hours. 

  

  

TANKER RESPONDS TO NUREMBURG STRUCTURE FIRE

November 15th - Tanker 191 was dispatched at 20:14 hours to respond to 182 Mahanoy Street in Nuremburg to assist Nuremburg/Weston Fire Company on a working structure fire.  Tanker 191 arrived on scene to be placed in staging and ordered to send manpower to the scene.  Crews assisted with overhaul and were released at 21:09 hours.

HUNTING CABIN BURNS

November 13th - At 19:35 hours Hazle Township and Harwood Fire Companies were dispatched to Interstate 81 Southbound near mile marker 141 for a reported structure fire.  Additional information from county 911 center reporting incident to be in the 8 Bee's campgrounds and fully involved at this time.  Engine 192 initially responded and then requested Brush 194 due to the location of the structure.  Crews arrived to find an approximate 20' x 30' single story hunting cabin well involved in fire and already on the ground.  Fire was extinguished with a 1.75" line from HTFD Utility 108.  All units released by command at 21:55 hours.

  

  

ENGINE AND TANKER RESPOND TO STRUCTURE FIRE IN THE TWP.

November 12th - At approximately 04:44 hours Engine 192 and Tanker 191 dispatched to assist Hazle Township Fire Department on a working structure fire at Boon Docks Pub on Route 940 in the Township.  Engine 192 arrived on scene to be ordered to back into the driveway behind Engine 103 and prepare to lay 5" LDH from the scene out to SR940 and establish rural water supply with incoming tankers.  Tanker 191 was directed to stage on SR940 in the event this water supply was needed.  Additional crews were sent to the front of the structure to stand by for orders from interior command.  First in crews found a small amount of fire on the exterior of the rear entrance to the structure and made a fast knock down of the fire. Crews remained in staging until being released at  05:21 hours.

FIRE CREWS HANDLE COMPACTOR FIRE IN INDUSTRIAL PARK

November 2nd - At 02:06 hours Harwood Fire Company was dispatched along with Hazle Twp. Fire Department to 533 Forrest Road in the Humboldt Industrial Park for a reported commercial structure fire.  Engine 192, Tanker 191, and Squad 196 responded to the alarm.  Engine 192 was directed to complete a split lay from Engine 103 and lay 5" LDH to the hydrant at the intersection of Maplewood Drive and Forrest Road and establish water supply.  Additional crews were ordered inside the structure and assist with advancement of a 2.5" leader line and stand pipe packs to begin extinguishment and overhaul on a large commercial cardboard compactor.  Crews remained on scene for approximately 2-1/2 hours performing extensive over haul to the machine.  All units returned to service at 04:45 hours. Assisted on scene by McAdoo and Sheppton-Oneida Fire Companies and West Hazleton and Mahanoy City R.I.T. Teams.
